Mrs. Debbie Gay

Georgia DoE Deputy Superintendent
of Federal Programs and Special Education Services

During her 40 years of work in the field of special education, Ms. Gay has served as a special education teacher, principal of a special education center, special education director and as the Executive Director of Support Services in a local school district.   As the Executive Director,  Ms. Gay had the opportunity to work with individuals providing special education services, as well as social work, health care, psychological, counseling and prevention and intervention.  Additionally, working with students in the English as a Second Language program helped her understand the diversity in her school community. 

Currently, Ms. Gay is serving as the Deputy Superintendent of Federal Programs and Special Education Services at the Georgia Department of Education.  Throughout her career, she has aimed to provide leadership to ensure students with disabilities have equitable opportunities to obtain educational services and supports leading to productive adult independence.
