Mr. Ernest “Ernie”  William Lee, II

2015 Georgia Teacher of the Year

Ernie Lee was born in Madisonville, Tennessee, in 1960, and grew up in Stone Mountain, Georgia.  He received a BA in psychology from Mercer University and his Juris Doctorate from Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama.  He is still a member on good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.  In addition to working in a private law practice, Ernie has worked within the Georgia Department of Revenue, the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education, and the Georgia Department of Human Resources. 

He came to Savannah in 2003 to become the first in-house attorney for the Savannah College of Art and Design.  In 2010, he was hired by the Savannah-Chatham County Public School District to work with special needs students at Windsor Forest High School while he entered the Georgia Academy for Teacher Preparation and Pedagogy.  Mr. Lee holds teaching certifications in special education, behavior sciences, business, and history, and has a gifted teaching endorsement.  He received the title of Savannah-Chatham County Public School Teacher of the Year in February 2015, and the title of Georgia Teacher of the Year in May 2015.  Mr.  Lee will compete for the National Teacher of the Year in the spring of 2016.
